Doctor Wheeler was raised in Port Chester, New York. He lived in Spain for three years and is fluent in Spanish.

Dr. Wheeler received his BA in Biology at the University of Buffalo. He completed his Medical Degree at Cornell University Medical College in 1986. His Obstetrics and Gynecology training was received at UCLA Medical Center in a combined internship and residency. There, he received honorary awards for his work in advanced laparoscopy and completed his research in innovative surgical techniques.

Upon completion of residency, Dr. Wheeler has dedicated himself to private practice, first in Thousand Oaks and subsequently moved to Newport Beach in May 1991. Dr. Wheeler is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Wheeler and his wife are raising 4 children in Newport Beach. Dr. Wheeler enjoys golf, music and hockey. Dr. Wheeler is a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopist, the Orange County Obstetrics and Gynecology Society and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

He is the past Chariman and vice Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hoag Hospital and has been instrumental in the construction of the east wing for the New Women's Pavilion at Hoag Hospital. He is also a supporter and member of the 552 club.

Dr. Wheeler is a past member of the Board of Directors of the PCOC, a physician sponsored health insurance company. He serves as medical editor for the Orange County Health Magazine, and is a certified radiography x-ray supervisor and operator.
